mAIDe Pop-Up

We were creatives coming together and putting our skills to good use for a great cause. In Whitefriars of Canterbury Saturday, April 30th, and Sunday, May 1st, we opened an incredible pop-up shop to sell student, lecturer, and UCA alumni work. We were raising money in aid of CHOOSE LOVE for the refugees and displaced people of Ukraine. This was a non-profit store, and all proceeds went to CHOOSE LOVE.

Students came together from different courses and year groups and work seamlessly and harmoniously to pull off a professional shop selling digital prints, silkscreen, lino, letterpress, textiles, wood craft and much more. We even had a kid's corner encouraging children to be creative and decorate a handmade sketchbook or colour in an illustration designed and donated by Sally Kindberg.

The weekend was a huge success, raising £1225 between Saturday and Sunday. Between the Go Fund Me link and the Pop-Up we raised £1,341

My role in this project was mainly as an organiser and creative director. I had an idea to set up a fundraiser the day Putin crossed the Ukraine border. From there I sought out a charity who target the refugees, an empty shop in a prime location, organised and negotiated dates and furniture, recruited fellow students to design the logo and colour palette then I made the literature, posters and shop interior.
 

Students joined the cause and submitted work to sell as well as printing, setting up and working in the shop. The support from the staff and students surrounding this event are what made it the success it was. If only the images could show the buzz and positive atmosphere inside the store.
